Prescient Arnao Predicts Perfection

Published: December 5, 2007

Tommy Arnao figures when it comes to bowling, he's still got quite a way to go to match up with his grandfather.

After all, when your grandfather is a member of the Tampa Bowling Association Hall of Fame and has been a kegling king around the Tampa area for many, many years, the struggle to not only match up but also to keep up could create a mental strain.

A week ago, Arnao, 26, who has been bowling since age 4, gave it his all and was so confident in his ability that he predicted to his grandfather that perfection was forthcoming.

"I started off in the Sardegna's Pro Shop Industrial League at Pin Chasers Midtown with a 240 game and I missed a spare 3-6-9-10," said Arnao. "Then I told my grandfather I felt a 300 game coming."

Twelve strikes later, perfection was attained.
Arnao followed the 300 with a 238 for a 778 series.

"All I did all night long was concentrate on keeping the ball outside, not plowing the headpin," said Arnao, who has 11 lifetime 300s. "The 300 was the cleanest I have ever bowled and my confidence was sky high."

Arnao's grandfather is Shell Wilson, semiretired pro shop operator and a U.S. Air Force retiree.

Other scores in that hot Sardegna's league were Robert Dodson 267-718, Greg Alexopoulos 290, Jeff Gee 257-690, Bill Singleton 690, Mark Frey 264-669, Joe Daigneault 267-668, Robert Benfield 254-664, Arturo Sylvester 662 and Frank Anello 245-661.
