Published: November 3, 2007

SULPHUR SPRINGS - More than 120 Chamberlain High School students returned to elementary school recently to help out at a school festival.

Chamberlain students, staff and parents volunteered at Sulphur Springs Elementary on Oct. 27 to help build up its parent-teacher association. The Chamberlain Parent-Teacher-Student Association is focusing on service this school year, President Heidi Ake said.
Sulphur Springs Elementary has a high poverty rate among its families and struggles to get parents involved. The festival provided food, games and entertainment as well as informational booths to tell parents about the PTA and community service organizations.

Students had to come with an adult. They packed the cafeteria for two-step dance team performances, Ake said.

Chamberlain student clubs designed game booths for the children, including a math and basketball game from Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society and the National Honor Society's rendition of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader?"
