LUTZ - The grassy patch in front of the downtown train depot and library will turn into an open air market Saturday.
Vendors will peddle food, plants, produce and bargains at the annual Lutz Market in the Park and The Taste of Lutz.
The fundraiser, organized by the Lutz Civic Association, runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Bullard Park at U.S. 41 and Lutz-Lake Fern Road. Restaurant booths open at 11 a.m. and close at 2 p.m.
About 50 vendors have registered. That is fewer sellers than in years past, but organizers expect the event to be sold out with about 75 booths, said Auralee Buckingham, a director in the civic group.
Participants will offer a mix of antiques, crafts, food from local restaurants and flea market items.
Buckingham said she worked hard this year to bring at least four plant vendors. One specializes in orchids and another sells bromeliads.
The event also is popular with residents who have household items to sell but live in a subdivision that prohibits garage sales, she said.
Hungry festivalgoers may buy $1 samples from local eateries such as Rapscallions, Nancy's Good n' Fast, Beef 'O'Brady's, Bennedetto's Italiano, New York Pizza, Uncle Burley's Grill, Sunset Dining and Westshore Pizza.
New business John's Butcher Shop will offer samples of Cuban sandwiches.
