CARROLLWOOD - Children responded to John Belcher's efforts to prevent cavities by bringing in 263 pounds of candy. Belcher, of John C. Belcher Cosmetic and Family Dentistry, offered cash if children brought Halloween candy.
Kids brought in candy on their own, and teacher Megan Weitekamp of Cannella Elementary School collected 97 pounds from her students. Belcher boxed the candy, along with a disposable camera and letters and drawings from the children, to send to America Supports You and, through Operation Gratitude, to U.S. troops in Iraq.
