TOWN 'N COUNTRY - TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Students at four Hillsborough County schools will have a chance to attend workshops on paying for college when the Sallie Mae Fund's bus tour stops in Tampa Nov. 26 and 27.
The fund, a charitable organization Sallie Mae sponsors, partnered with the Hillsborough County School district to bring the workshops to Lennard and Durant high schools on Nov. 26 and Leto and Alonso on Nov. 27. Scholarships worth $250 each will be awarded at Lennard, Durant and Leto. The Alonso workshop will be conducted in Spanish and include a $1,000 scholarship. All are free.
The session at Alonso, 8302 Montague St. in northwestern Hillsborough County, is the only one of the four open to the public. It runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a light dinner preceding it that starts at 5:30 p.m.
The "Paying for College Bus Tour" has also stopped in Orlando, Broward County, Miami and Ft. Myers. The tour started in 2004, and this year will hit 65 cities nationally with educational sessions on scholarships, grants and federal aid.
