CARROLLWOOD - Independent Day School put its wishes for peace on display.
About 180 teachers, administrators and middle school students observed the United Nations' International Day of Peace on Sept. 21 by forming a human peace sign at the private school in Carrollwood. They arrived early to school and stood to form the symbol, holding a moment of silence to recognize hopes for peace worldwide.
The United Nations established the International Day of Peace in 1981 to promote resolving conflicts and global nonviolence.
English teachers Jenn Jagdmann and Kat Quin came up with the idea, which the middle school student council helped to create. A photograph of the event will become the cover of an anthology the school is compiling of student essays on world peace.
