High Schools To Hold College Nights

TAMPA - TAMPA - Several Hillsborough County high schools will hold college nights this month and next, including seven conducted only in Spanish.

Chamberlain, King, Jefferson, East Bay, Gaither, Plant City and Alonso will host the Spanish meetings, which will promote the benefits of a college education and discuss preparing for college as well as applying for admission and financial aid. At the end of the final meeting, on Nov. 27, the district will give away a $1,000 scholarship.

Jefferson and Plant City, meanwhile, will also host a general career and college fair this month to give middle and high school students and their parents a chance to talk with representatives from colleges and industries.

Attendees will be able to participate in breakout sessions on construction, culinary, engineering, medicine and technology.

Those two sessions take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 24 at Jefferson, 4401 W. Cypress St., Tampa, and during the same hours on Oct. 25 at Plant City, 1 Raider Place, Plant City. For information, call (813) 231-1860.

The Spanish sessions all start at 6:30 p.m., beginning on Oct. 23 with Chamberlain, 9401 N. Boulevard. The other schools hosting are Oct. 25 at King, 6815 N. 56th St., Tampa; Oct. 30 at Jefferson; Nov. 6 at East Bay, 7710 Old Big Bend Road, Gibsonton; Nov. 13 at Gaither, 16200 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa; Nov. 20 at Plant City High School; and Nov. 27 at Alonso, 8302 Montague St., Tampa.

El Departamento de Servicios de Consejería de las Escuelas Públicas del Condado de Hillsborough anuncia sus siete sesiones de ¨Pasos al Futuro¨, con información sobre colegios "en español," durante los meses de octubre y noviembre.

Las reuniones enumeradas adelante se enfocarán en promover los beneficios de una educación universitaria y en informar a los estudiantes y a sus padres sobre cómo prepararse y cómo solicitar para la universidad, y sobre el proceso de asistencia financiera y becas. Se otorgará una beca de $1,000 al final de la reunión del 27 de noviembre.

Todas las reuniones comienzan a las 6:30 p.m. y serán en español solamente.
