CARROLLWOOD - Parents looking for an alternative to going door-to-door on Halloween can take toddlers to a Trunk-or-Treat event that combines tailgating with trick-or-treating.
Lake Carroll Baptist Church, 12012 N. Rome Ave., is holding a fall festival on Oct. 31 followed by Trunk-or-Treat - where costumed children walk around the parking lot, going trunk-to-trunk, while parents hand out candy from the decorated vehicles.
The trick-or-treating alternative is gaining popularity across the nation, said Nina Entzminger, administrative assistant at the Baptist church.
'I just feel like it gives the parents a safe way to allow their kids to get candy,' she said.
The church's fall festival begins at 4:30 p.m. and features a moon walk, six ponies, small carnival games and hot dogs. Trunk-or-treating begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends with a costume parade.
The church always has offered an alternative to Halloween for families and has held Trunk-of-Treat the past four years, Entzminger said.
Past gatherings have attracted up to 20 cars, but organizers are anticipating more this year because the event falls on the holiday.
'We always try to promote this as a not-so-scary event,' she said.
