If you know of a creative classroom, unique approach to teaching, or a student or educator who deserves some attention, we want to hear about it.
The Carrollwood News & Tribune spotlights education news in a weekly feature called Homeroom. Last year, we wrote about students who created fundraisers for needy children and teachers who won county, state and national recognition. In the classrooms, we learned about how karaoke helped children learn to read and how one school experienced China through an international exchange.
This year, we're asking for your help to expand our coverage in the print edition and online. Here are some tips to get you started:
Stories: Share ideas for coverage on the phone or through e-mail. In addition to classroom stories, we also run free community announcements weekly in our Class Notes column.
Please try to notify us a week in advance.
Photos: Our photojournalists frequently take pictures within the schools, but we can't be everywhere at once. So get your cameras out at your fall festivals, your dads' club golf outings or your class plays, and share what you shoot. You can upload photos directly to the Carrollwood News & Tribune Web site through the Snap gallery, or you can e-mail them to Courtney Cairns Pastor at cpastor @tampatrib.com. We will post them online and run them in the paper on a space-available basis.
We like photographs that show action rather than posed ones, and we request that you provide the names, dates and locations of subjects with the pictures you submit. E-mailed photos should be jpg images.
Interact: We encourage you to visit a recently launched community Web site at tbo.com/community/carrollwood. Explore the 'News,' 'Your Photos' or 'Schools' tabs for different topics. You can read breaking stories that only appear online as well as coverage you might have missed in the Wednesday and Saturday print editions. You will find links to e-mail story ideas, or start and respond to polls or conversations in online forums. You can upload photos to Snap.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Call reporter Courtney Cairns Pastor at (813) 865-1503 or e-mail her at cpastor@tampa trib.com with ideas. You can also click on 'send us a school news tip' on the Web site at tbo.com/community/carroll wood.
