William R. Howarth has graduated from the Uniformed Services University, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Md. The graduate was promoted to the rank of captain and commissioned to serve in the Medical Corps of the Air Force.

The university is the Department of Defense's military school of medicine which educates students for direct accession in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Public Health Science. At the school, students complete a four-year course of study to be a military physician. The curriculum includes extra hours in epidemiology, health promotion, disease prevention, tropical medicine, leadership and field exercises, medical effects of weapons of mass destruction, and other subjects related to the military medical career field.

Howarth is the son of Elizabeth Howarth and stepson of Ellis Michael of Stillwater Terrace Drive, Tampa.

His father, Rob Howarth, resides in Staunton, Va.

Carrie, his wife, is the daughter of Tom and Nancy Swisher of Logansport, Ind.

Howarth graduated in 1992 from Gaither High School and received a bachelor's degree in 1997 from the University of Florida.

Pvt. 1st Class Brooke Lindsey Davis and Army Spec. Devin F. Burke recently graduated from Army basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Davis is assigned to the 266th Quartermaster Battalion at Fort Lee, Va., where she is receiving advanced technical training. She is the daughter of Brian Davis of Tampa and Donna Davis of Town 'N Country. Davis attended Alonso High School.

Burke is the son of Gwendolyn Burke of Cherry Brook Lane, and brother of Jason Worley of N. Armenia Avenue, both of Tampa. Burke is a 2005 graduate of Chamberlain High School.

Army Pvt. David M. Gray has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.

The Advanced Individual Training course is designed to train infantry soldiers to perform reconnaissance operations; employ, fire and recover anti-personnel and anti-tank mines; locate and neutralize land mines and operate target and sight equipment; operate and maintain communications equipment and radio networks; construct field firing aids for infantry weapons; and perform infantry combat exercises and dismounted battle drills, which includes survival procedures in a nuclear, biological or chemical contaminated area.

Gray is the son of Randy and Tela Nix of North Boulevard, Tampa.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Stephen C. Fimbel and Navy Seaman Recruit Gregory J. Isaacs recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Fimbel, the son of Sandra R. and Mark L. Fimbel, both of Tampa, is a 2006 graduate of Leto High School.

Isaacs is a 2004 graduate of Center Academy in Lutz.

Air Force Airman Shawn R. Johnston and James J. Pabon have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Johnston is the son of Tammy and Eric Wilkinson of Lawnview Court, Tampa, and is a 2006 graduate of Leto High School.

Pabon is the son of Kedzie Malooley of Blazing Star Drive, Tampa, and a 2006 graduate of Sickles High School.
