A man who police say robbed a Subway restaurant Sunday night was polite and apologetic, even when he demanded money and threatened to shoot an employee.
The unidentified man implied he had a gun, but the employee did not see a weapon, according to the Tampa Police Department. The man took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and left the Subway at 8410 Florida Ave. N., walking toward Sulphur Springs, police said.
The man referred to his family and mentioned to the Subway employee that times were tough, police spokeswoman Andrea Davis said.
"It's not something you typically see," Davis said of the man's demeanor. "Typically, when somebody robs a place, they're aggressive. This man was calm, mild-mannered, apologetic."
The robbery does not appear to be related to those at a CVS pharmacy on Nov. 29 and a Sonic fast food restaurant on Nov. 30 where employees were shot, police said.
Detectives said the man who robbed the Subway at 10:47 p.m. Sunday might be connected to a robbery Nov. 18 at Burger King, 9211 Florida Ave. N.
The man is described as black, 18 to 22 years old, 5-feet-8-inches tall, 165 pounds and with a dark complexion. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
