ODESSA - When Lauren Malynowsky was given the option to have a small birthday party and get gifts for herself or to have a bigger party and donate the gift, she decided to donate.
Rebecca Malynowsky said once her daughter decided, they searched online for an organization. Lauren loves animals, so she decided to donate to an animal rescue agency.
One day after Lauren's eighth birthday party, held Jan. 4, she and her mother went to St. Francis Society Animal Rescue drop-off center at the PetSmart in Citrus Park with a carload of donations.
They arrived with $160 and pet food, treats, toys, pet carrier, litter boxes and pet bowls
"I was proud of her," said Rebecca Malynowsky. "She was not sad. She was happy to do it."
The birthday party guests purchased gifts from a wish list on the animal rescue's Web site, luvamutt.org, or donated money.
