TOWN 'N COUNTRY - The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is looking for people who would enjoy a night of free bowling and food.
It's also seeking folks who want to make a difference in a child's life.
The 27th annual Bowl for Kids' Sake events are fast approaching, and BBBS organizers want you to participate.
The events - taking place in Port Richey on March 1, Town 'N Country on March 15, Central Tampa on March 30 and Lakeland on April 19 - are the largest annual campaign for the organization.
Big Brothers holds bowling events nationwide, and the Tampa Bay Big Brothers has raised up to $200,000 from participants in Hillsborough, Pasco and Polk counties, said Nicole McNally, fund development coordinator.
This year's goal is $300,000.
Participation would consist of a team captain registering a team of four who are encouraged to raise $200 each. The organization is making $1,000 the team goal this year because it takes $1,000 to support a Big Brothers match per year, McNally said.
Anyone from the community is welcome to register. Past participants have mostly included members of the city of Tampa and local fire and police departments, McNally said. Churches and fraternities and sororities are also frequent participants.
Every team member who raises $110 in pledges will receive an event T-shirt, and those who raise $200 will earn a sweatshirt plus the T-shirt.
McNally said the organization hopes for 500 teams this year.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters mission is "to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth," the organization's Web site says.
"It's actually a really fun event, but it's not really about the bowling," McNally said. "It's about the kids and having fun."
