Linebaugh Project To Bear Water

Published: July 5, 2008

CARROLLWOOD - CARROLLWOOD - Businesses along a 2-mile stretch of West Linebaugh Avenue soon will be able to connect to county water, thanks to a $2.2 million potable water pipeline project.

Crews with Suncoast Development will lay a 12-inch diameter pipeline along the south side of Linebaugh Avenue, starting from the gas station at Henderson Road and heading east to Mullis City Way.

At certain points, workers will bore the pipeline under the roadway, but will not have to tear up the asphalt.

The pipeline project will have five connection points into the existing system - at Henderson, Anderson and Nixon roads, Plantation Boulevard and Mullis City Way.

About 12,000 feet of pipeline will create a continuous loop that will stabilize and increase water pressure and provide water for fire protection along the corridor.

The pipeline addresses the gap in water coverage between the Plantation subdivision and the area to the southwest.

Project manager Lloyd Horton, with the county's water resource services department, said drivers should see construction workers in about a month.

Horton gave an overview of the project at a community meeting Monday at the Carrollwood Cultural Center. There are no planned road closures or interruptions in water service, but some lane closures should be expected.

"There will be some inconvenience," he said. "It's a 240-day project. Eight months, so bear with us."

Fire hydrants will be installed along the roadway.

The pipeline will increase the reliability of the system, Horton said.

"It just loops everything together," he said. "If they close a valve at one place, it doesn't close off the water to the subdivision. It would find a way to get there."
