CARROLLWOOD - A popular cooking demonstration series that sends chefs to libraries across Hillsborough County is coming to the Jimmie B. Keel Library next week.
Chef Bil Mitchell, from the Publix Apron's Cooking School in Citrus Park, will present an hourlong cooking class offering culinary shortcuts for summer dishes.
Michel Sill, program assistant with the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System, said the traveling cooking classes began in September and have been visiting Hillsborough libraries every three months.
Mitchell won't return to a location until he has visited each branch, Sill said.
The cooking class, "Beat the Heat," will be held at noon Tuesday at the regional library, 2902 W. Bearss Ave.
Sill said the program is free, and the first 25 guests will get samples of the recipes. Complimentary recipe cards will be available.
Mitchell, a resident chef at Apron's Cooking School at Citrus Park, began teaching at the Sarasota location. He worked at and managed various restaurants in Ohio, Virginia and Florida, according to his biography on the cooking school's Web site.
Sill said cooking classes at other branches have been successful and spawned interest in cooking-related activities and clubs.
For example, patrons in Thonotosassa are starting a recipe swap, she said.
