Army Soldiers Complete Basic Combat Training
Army Pvts. Chad S. Stone, Jonathan L. Chandler and Jesus M. Perez and Army Reserve Pvt. Jeshua Casanova have graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldiers studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, and physical fitness. They also received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.
Stone is the son of Tim and Suzanne Stone of Little Park Drive, Tampa, and is a 2006 graduate of Gaither High School in Tampa.
Chandler is the son of Peggy Merete of Exter Way, Tampa, and Richard Chandler of East Point, Ga. He is a 2007 graduate of Leto Comprehensive High School in Tampa.
Perez is the son of Carmen Figura of Peppermill Court, Tampa.
Casanova is the son of Norma I. Rivera of Hollow Hunt Court, Tampa, and a 2006 graduate of Alonso High School in Tampa.
Raymond Padgett Awarded Service Medal
Air Force Reserve Master Sgt. Raymond F. Padgett has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal.
The medal is awarded to members of the U.S. armed forces who distinguish themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service to the United States in noncombat situations.
Padgett, a public affairs superintendent with 19 years of military service, is assigned to the 920th Rescue Wing at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach.
He is the brother of Mary Sharp of North Dartmouth Avenue, Tampa, and his wife, Lara, is the daughter of Martin Gall of Lake Ellen Lane, Tampa.
The master sergeant graduated in 1987 from Chamberlain High School and earned his master's degree in 2004 from National Louis University in Tampa.
David Farr Receives Overseas Deployment
Army Reserve Spec. David T. Farr, a 2005 graduate of Alonso High School in Tampa, has been mobilized and activated for a future deployment to an undisclosed overseas location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counterinsurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers.
Members of the U.S. military and multinational forces are also assisting in rebuilding Iraq's infrastructure and training and preparing Iraqi military and security forces to assume full authority in defending and preserving Iraq's democracy.
Farr, a military police combat support specialist with five years of military service, is regularly assigned to the 320th Military Police Company in St. Petersburg.
He is the son of Sean T. and Kellie A. Farr of River Road, Tampa.
