Published: May 21, 2008

Jeff Boje, owner of Brandon Crossroads Bowl and another bowling center in St. Louis, has been re-elected president of the United States Bowling Congress board of directors.

Boje served as a proprietor director for four years before being elevated to the presidential position last year.

The USBC also re-elected Darlene Baker of Illinois as vice president.

In other Board action, USBC bylaws will be reviewed by counsel before being sent to the USBC Legal & Legislative Committee. And an executive committee, consisting of five board members serving one-year terms, will be established on Aug. 1 with a bylaw change to this effect being put before the delegates at the 2009 annual meeting in Reno.

SANDELIN CHALLENGES BARNES: Lucy Sandelin matched recent USBC Queens champion Lynda Barnes strike for strike for strike before a seven count on her fourth attempt dropped the popular Tampan from the competition in Bowling's Clash of Champions in Kansas City, Mo.

Barnes then went on to win the $50,000 first-place prize with a 258-237 victory over PBA Tour titlist Sean Rash.

BRANDON CROSSROADS BOWL: Perfect games were again the order of the day at BCB.

Virgil Wills pumped in a 300 in the Ladies and Gents League. Mike Miller was perfect in the DTGIF League and David Crosby fired a 300 in the Saturday Nite Live League. And in the Monday Mix-Ups League, Luis Padilla fell one pin short with a 299.

OAKFIELD LANES: Don Yoshihara and Frank Fautas were the stars during last week's action.

Yoshihara went 299-845 and Fautas 300-806 in the James Rivard GMC Thursday Night League.

Other scores were Ken Brush 279-742, Chris Keyes 289-724, Tony Jones 269-719, Ed Diabo 277-713, Bobby Farr 288, Scott Epperson 279 and Derrell Cannington 268.

PIN CHASERS MIDTOWN: Thomas Hale, with 268-759, and Mark Frey, with 268-751, led the Sardegna's Pro Shop Industrial League last week.

Other good scores were Phil Frey 259-720, Rocky Lawrance 257-709, Randy Pullara 290-696, Anthony Busciglio 276-683, Robert Dodson 256-681, Mark Watkins 265-676 and Larry Purdie 675.

AMF UNIVERSITY LANES: Peter Ali's 279-695 led the men, while Cassie Soderstrom had high game of 211 and Jean Frye high series of 203-575 for the women last week.

Other scores for the men were Ralph Barnes 247-686, Willie Shoats 268-679, Chuck Duncan 274-659, Sean Roberts 225-628 and Fred Aquino 234-611. Soderstrom followed Frye in the series column with 523, while Miriam Stokes had 189-520, Kristina Duncan 188-509 and Tina Tressler 198-508.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I happened to glance at a 1984-85 Tampa Bowling Association yearbook and couldn't help but notice the amazing difference in how averages have changed. The top three were lefties.

Vic Pettit topped the yearbook average list with 234, followed by Mark Trye at 228. Then came southpaw Gregg Meany at 214.

Right behind were right-handers Shell Wilson with 211 and Bill Helsel Jr. with 209. Southpaws Russell Stark and George Guerrette had 209.
