CITRUS PARK - Residents on Monday will have a chance to comment on the design of an extension of Citrus Park Drive through Fawn Ridge.
The county plans to build a four-lane divided highway for about 2.8 miles, from east of Countryway Boulevard to Sheldon Road. The $67 million project will create a new way for people living in Westchase and Nine Eagles to get to the Veterans Expressway and to the shopping mall, schools and other businesses in Citrus Park.
At a 6:30 p.m. community meeting, county employees will listen to residents' thoughts about the route and proposed landscaping, said Steve Valdez, a spokesman for the county's public works department. The meeting will be in the cafeteria at Sickles High School, 7950 Gunn Highway.
After Fawn Ridge homeowners objected to the road running through their neighborhood, Hillsborough commissioners doubled the amount of money the county normally spends on landscaping for such projects.
County staffers have devised a couple of landscaping plans and will seek people's thoughts before making a selection, Valdez said.
County officials and Fawn Ridge residents are trying to come up with a maintenance plan for the landscaping, Valdez said. The county can't afford long-term maintenance costs, Valdez said.
Construction on the project is expected to begin in late 2009 or early 2010 and be completed in 12 to 18 months, Valdez said.
