TOWN 'N COUNTRY - The recent opening of an Aldi grocery store on Hillsborough Avenue means another option when shopping for the Thanksgiving feast.
The store offers mostly generic items to cut costs. And with the struggling economy and higher food prices, that's sure to be on the minds of many families this holiday season.
This year, the average turkey dinner with all the trimmings for 10 people will cost $44.61, a price increase of $2.35, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation.
So how do the area grocery stores compare to the prices at Aldi? We shopped for the staples of a Thanksgiving dinner that would feed eight people. When possible, we chose the store brand version of the product or the cheapest option. Food prices were based on the week of Nov. 10.
