TAMPA - Hillsborough County firefighters were busy this morning responding to what was reported as a hot-air-balloon collision in Lutz that turned out to be nothing and then to alarms in northwest and north Hillsborough County on unrelated calls.
Firefighters did find smoke coming out of a duplex at 5910 Mar Jo Drive in North Tampa this morning. They determined that the smoke was coming from a burning pot on the stove. The resident, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Damage to the structure was minimal.
Firefighters also were called out to the report of smoke in the ADT Security Services business at 5471 W. Waters Ave. Thirteen employees evacuated the building before firefighters arrived.
The smoke was coming from a short-circuited air conditioning motor, firefighters said.
No one was injured in that call, firefighters said, and employees were expected to be allowed back into the building soon.
In Lutz, deputies and firefighters who rushed to the scene of a reported hot-air-balloon accident near U.S. 41 and Newberger Road did not find a disaster. "It just appears that one balloon clipped some power lines and landed," sheriff's office spokesman J.D. Callaway said. "There were no injuries, and it launched again."
