ODESSA - Golfers will pick up their clubs Friday in honor of a Lutz boy with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.
Patrick Bliven, 13, was diagnosed in 2004. Since then he has led fundraisers for the Arthritis Foundation and advocated in Washington for better access to medicine. In 2006, he was named the National Arthritis Foundation's Child Walk Honoree.
He has raised more than $10,000 through arthritis walks and golf tournaments, said his mother, Kelly Anne Bliven.
The "Patrick's Putt Away the Pain" golf tournament is in its third year.
Registration for the tournament begins at 11:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at the Eagles Golf Club, 16101 Nine Eagles Drive. The player package, which includes cart and green fees and boxed lunch, costs $90.
Money raised will benefit the Arthritis Foundation, which sends children to summer camp.
For information, call (813) 968-7000. Registration is available the day of the tournament or in advance online at www.puttawaythepain.com or www.active.com.
