CARROLLWOOD - St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute plans to open a 6,200-square-foot eye-care center in Carrollwood next spring.
St. Luke's has purchased the former Regions Bank building at 13303 N. Dale Mabry Highway. The company will spend $2.5 million for the purchase and renovation of the building and to add new equipment, says James P. Gills, founder and director of St. Luke's in Tarpon Springs.
The two-story facility will have a full-time cataract surgeon who will consult with patients. However, surgeries will continue to be performed at St. Luke's 26,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center at 43309 U.S. 19 N. in Tarpon Springs.
Ophthalmologists specializing in vitreo-retinal, glaucoma, facial-cosmetic and refractive surgeries will rotate at the Carrollwood center, assisted by about 15 support staff members.
Founded in 1968, St. Luke's Cataract & Laser Institute has a Medicare-certified outpatient surgical center accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.
St. Luke's staff of nearly two dozen medical doctors and optometrists specializes in cataract and lens-implant, refractive, vitreo-retinal, glaucoma, and eyelid and facial-cosmetic surgeries. For information on St. Luke's, call 1-800-282-9905 or visit www.stlukeseye.com.
