TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Families new to Florida schools can get free physicals and immunizations for children before school starts.
The Back to School Coalition of Hillsborough County will host a series of free physicals this month at six sites across the county. One is scheduled for Aug. 22 at the Town 'N Country Recreation Center, 6039 Hanley Road. Appointments are required.
The physicals are available to students entering kindergarten through 12th grade who have not been enrolled previously in Florida schools. Parents or guardians must accompany them and bring children's immunization records.
All children must have received the minimum number of immunizations that the state requires. Vaccines vary based on grade but include immunizations for chicken pox, polio, hepatitis B, tetanus and other shots.
Sports, Head Start or day care physicals are not available at the free dates.
The physicals and immunizations will be given from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the recreation center. Call (813) 870-4747 for an appointment.
The first day of school is Aug. 25.
