TOWN 'N COUNTRY - Shoppers can soon save a little cash while helping a good cause.
The Children's Home is opening a thrift store in Town 'N Country called Charlie's Treasures. The store is named for the boy in The Children's Home logo and will sell gently used items. The proceeds will benefit the home for abused, neglected and abandoned children.
Merrill Stewart, director of communications for the organization, said the store's opening benefits both them and those struggling in a tough economy.
"The timing is good for shoppers, considering the economy," she said. "And these proceeds will go to the funding gaps in our programs."
The store, at 7322 W. Waters Ave., will host a grand opening Feb. 28 with games and prizes. The store is accepting donations weekdays between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Some of the needed items are: clothing, accessories, household items, bedding, small appliances, tools, furniture, books, DVDs, small electronics, games and toys.
The store does not accept used computers, monitors and keyboards, large appliances or mattresses and box springs. Donated items should be clean, working and intact. Donations should be dropped off at the back of the store.
The thrift store also needs volunteers to sort and sell merchandise. To help, call (813) 864-1531. Regular store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
