Applicants Line Up For 3 Principal Slots

TAMPA - Applicants have lined up for three available principal positions at northwestern Hillsborough schools.

Davidsen Middle School and Gaither and Leto high schools are losing their principals to transfers.

Michael Miranda left Davidsen on Jan. 5 to take the principal job at Progress Village Middle Magnet School. Brenda Grasso, at Gaither, and Leto's David Brown are leaving their schools in April to open Steinbrenner and Strawberry Crest high schools, respectively.

Applications were due this month and attracted dozens of applicants. The Hillsborough County School Board could make its selection this week.

Vying for the Gaither job are: Sue Burkett, assistant principal, Bloomingdale High; George Fekete, assistant principal, Hillsborough High; Brian McCraw, teacher, Hardin Jefferson High, Texas; Rosemary Owens, assistant principal, Freedom High; Elizabeth Tuten, assistant principal, Leto High; and Marie Whelan, assistant principal, Middleton High.

Seeking the Leto job are: Van Ayres, assistant principal, Blake High; Victor Fernandez, principal, Pierce Middle School; Tommy Morrill, assistant principal, Robinson High; Hilda Genco, assistant principal, Sickles High; Oscar Gonzalez, assistant principal, Leto High; Brian Metcalf, special education administration in Chicago; Eric Palmu, substitute teacher; and Elizabeth Tuten, assistant principal, Leto High.

Davidsen netted the most applications.

Those were: Tim Binder, assistant principal, Pierce Middle; Jill Dorsett, principal, Freedom Middle in Georgia; Keith Fantauzzo, assistant principal, Martinez Middle; Kent Glover, assistant principal, Alonso High; Scott Hilgenberg, assistant principal, Bartels Middle; Dywayne Hinds, assistant principal at Ferrell Middle; Felita Lott, principal, Carl Sagan Academy; Amy Lusk, assistant principal, Coleman Middle; Brent McBrien, principal, Webb Middle; Brian McCraw, teacher, Hardin Jefferson High, Texas, and Eric Palmu, substitute.
