CARROLLWOOD - Bird lovers who long to see colorful hummingbirds flutter over their gardens or screech owls perched in backyard trees can get some tips at an upcoming bird talk.
Wild Birds Unlimited, 13140 N. Dale Mabry Highway, will host a free seminar on Florida birds at 9 a.m. Feb. 7.
"We're going to talk about different birds in the area and help people identify what they might see," owner Greg Williams said.
He said they will also discuss ways you can attract birds to a yard. For example, a honeysuckle plant attracts hummingbirds, blue jays and cardinals.
The discussion will also cover where different species raise their young, what trees and shrubs they use and which birds are migrating through this time of year.
Williams will also talk about what foods best attract the wanted species. For example, although many types are attracted by seed, birds such as blue jays and doves also eat nuts and berries.
"We'll also help people choose the right binoculars for spotting birds," Williams said.
For information about the class, call (813) 961-2772.
