Back to school means it's time to shop

Teachers recommend parents know what they need before heading to the store to avoid buying unnecessary items.

The school bell rings for most students in a few weeks meaning it's time to get ready for another year of classes, practices, after-school activities, bus stop runs and carpools.

Pasco County schools open their doors on Aug. 24, and Hillsborough and Pinellas counties follow Aug. 25.

The start of school also means it's time to stock up on those spiral notebooks, No. 2 pencils and hand sanitizers. Teachers recommend parents know what they need before heading to the store to avoid buying unnecessary items. Many stores post supply lists for local schools in their back-to-school aisles. The sales have begun already at many places

Experts also suggest looking for bargains and avoiding name brands when possible. Parents, though, may want to splurge on more expensive, higher-quality choices for heavily-used items that need to last through the year, such as backpacks.
