WEST SHORE - Eleven high school juniors were recently selected as "Young Women of Promise" by the Athena Society.
The Tampa organization is comprised of women who want to promote equality and opportunities for women.
Last month the group hosted a luncheon to recognize those who have excelled in school while being leaders in the community. Each junior received a $500 scholarship.
Those recognized include:

•Mariana D. Stavig of Lutz, Blake High
•Jennifer Le of Lutz, Hillsborough High
•Mallory Hogan of Lutz, Academy of the Holy Names
•Kelsey Anne Nestor, King High
•Jerisa Upton, Freedom High
•Shantaviae Wynn, Berkeley Preparatory School
•Somer E. Harvey of Plant City, Durant High
•Julia Jacintho Couto of Brandon, Robinson High
•Hilary Ward Sedgeman of Valrico, Tampa Preparatory School
•Jessica Renee Conkey, Spoto High
