TAMPA - Olivia Newton-John, a Grammy Award-winning singer, actress and cancer advocate, has joined Moffitt Cancer Center's national Board of Advisors, it was announced today.
The advisers serve as Moffitt ambassadors and offer expertise, advice and counsel on issues relating to the cancer center. The panel is chaired by ABC newsman Sam Donaldson.
Newton-John became an avid cancer activist following her successful battle with breast cancer.
For Moffitt, she will continue her cancer advocacy activities while helping to raise awareness of the cancer center and its mission to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer, a news release says.
Newton-John credits her own breast self-exam as the first step to her diagnosis of breast cancer. Sixteen years later, she is an advocate in creating awareness for early detection and encouraging women to take an active role in their breast health by creating the Liv Aid, a breast self-examination tool to encourage and empower women to do monthly breast self-exams.
