CARROLLWOOD - Organizers for the Carrollwood Players are banking on bingo to help boost their economic outlook.
The nonprofit community theater is hosting the first fundraiser in the theater's 29-year history.
"We've really been affected by the economy," said Maryann Bardi, an actress with the group. "We've always been able to be self-sufficient on our tickets sales. But people are just not going out as much and sales are down."
The fundraiser will take place Nov. 13 to 15 and feature the play "The Queen of Bingo." The play is about two sisters battling their obsessions, one with food and one with bingo.
The play features interactive parts where the audience can buy bingo cards and play bingo for prizes.
"The actors actually interact with the audience as part of the show," she said. "We're hoping that the bingo lovers will come out and make this event a success."
Shows will take place at the Carrollwood Players Community Theater at 4335 Gunn Highway. Show times are at 8 p.m. Nov. 13 and 14 and 3 p.m. Nov. 15.
Ticket reservations can be made at www.carroll woodplayers.org or by calling 813-265-4000.
Other upcoming shows include "Working: The Musical," "It's a Wonderful Life" and "The Senator Wore Pantyhose."
