The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa will hold its 17th annual fundraising luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 29 at the downtown Hyatt Regency, 211 N. Tampa St.
Guest speaker will be DeForest Soaries Jr., senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, N.J.
He will talk about home foreclosures and a church-based strategy, known as HARP, or the Home Assistance and Recovery Program.
As a last resort when other options, such as refinancing, have failed, the church, through a nonprofit organization, buys homes in foreclosure, and then rents them to the former homeowners. The goal is within two to three years to re-sell the homes to those former owners.
Tickets for the luncheon are $75. Tables for eight guests are $750. Corporate sponsorships also are available.
For information or to make reservations for the luncheon, call Rhonda Feliciano at the CDC, (813) 231-4362, ext. 315.
