Freedom High senior Joe Gazzillo has a sweet treat bound for troops deployed to Afghanistan. He has collected about 250 pounds of candy since Halloween to send to his cousin and other Marines in the war zone. Bags of snack-sized M&Ms, Almond Joy, Snickers and other assortments of candies poking out of plastic containers and boxes fill the foyer at the Gazzillo's suburban home. ...more

Boy Scout Troop 22 spent an enjoyable weekend at Egmont Key State Park in early December. The Scouts explored the fort ruins, took an orientation class and performed a community service project that involved helping park rangers remove non-indigenous species of plants. It was an opportunity for the Scouts to work in the shadow of the historic Egmont Key Lighthouse and traverse the century-old red brick roads. ...more

The Palm Harbor Junior Women's Club will move its fundraising Taste of Palm Harbor food festival from October to February to attract more seasonal visitors and avoid football season. Holding the 2009 event on Sunday, Feb. 22, during the winter tourist season, will allow many more visitors to sample the Taste of Palm Harbor, Chaz Foy, a club spokeswoman, says.
