SEBRING — If there's a word to describe what Geno Beuth does, it must be whimsy. Yes, it's the same sort of whimsy that created the now-famous portrait of the dogs smoking and shooting pool, but nevertheless, virtually everyone on Saturday who passed by Beuth's booth at the 41st annual Fine Arts & Crafts Festival stopped, looked and reacted. "I like the frog," one observed. That's called "Leap Frog," and it's of a mutt, tongue hanging out of a silly grin, hitting a frog's back in full stride, and jumping over it. ...more

SEBRING — Penny Phillippi, housing director for Highlands County, said the chorus to the Mel Tillis tune helped foster a collection of hundreds of products stamped with the familiar red and white Coca-Cola logo. Phillippi enjoys the lyrics used in the advertisement for the restaurant "Whataburger" and a glass from the eatery has become her most prized Coca-Cola collectible. Her collection includes 38 different sets of glasses, or 220 glasses total, all sporting the trademarked logo. Much of Phillippi's Coke memorabilia will be displayed at the fledgling Sebring Ridge Museum, at 146 W. Center Ave., just off the Circle, on Saturday. The museum will open its doors during the 41st annual Fine Arts and Crafts Festival. The Sebring Ridge Museum's future hours of operation will vary. ...more

SEBRING –– It's the time of the year. The 41st annual Fine Arts and Crafts Festival hits downtown Sebring on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free event features artists from around the country displaying glasswork, watercolor, oil, wood sculpture, jewelry, photography, pottery, woodworks, metal sculpture, mixed media and more. In addition to the traditional art show that opens at 9 a.m., the art league has partnered with the Sebring Chamber of Commerce to host the evening events beginning at 4 and running until 9. Activities will culminate into the Heartland Idol finale at 7 p.m. While the primary focus of this year's festival is from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., the whole family will enjoy the activities taking place after the festival, too. ...more

SEBRING — A "high-caliber" arts and crafts festival will be making its debut at Sebring's Circle on Jan. 19-20. Howard Alan, a widely recognized coordinator of art and craft shows nationwide, will be organizing Sebring's first show, which he described as "a high-quality craft fair." "We will have a couple million dollars of work on display and artists from probably 10 states," Alan said. "Everything sold is hand-crafted, original work made in America." The show could eventually include a juried competition and even more vendors. ...more
