Al Noto started the fundraiser for Tampa's MacDonald Training Center 34 years ago. It has grown to an event that attracts people from all walks of life, who come to eat spaghetti and reconnect with old friends. This year an estimated 1,200 people attended the March 19 lunch in West Tampa. More than $19,000 was raised. Following his first day after a full night's sleep in days, Russ Oberbroeckling, chairman of the 2009 Temple Terrace Relay for Life, couldn't be happier. The event he and his committee spent weeks preparing for is history. But, best of all, the March 27-28 overnight fundraiser netted $130,000 of its $170,000 goal set by the Tampa office of American Cancer Society. "Deep down I was hoping we'd reach the goal, but $130,000 is fantastic considering the state of the economy," said Oberbroeckling, who voluntarily took charge of the event for the second time. ...more

I was invited to participate in the cancer fund raiser fashion show last year as a Realtor and an usher. I was told there were Realtors and cancer survivors that would be modeling in the show. When I mentioned that I was also a survivor, I was promoted to model. I was honored to participate in this wonderful fundraiser for cancer. I honestly did not know what to expect, but I found out in a hurry that we start with very ordinary people and turn them into professional models! The hours that go into this show are countless.
