SEBRING — No lead is ever safe in golf, especially with 36 holes left to play. Taylore Karle shot an even-par 72 to hold off the hard-charging Alison Walshe, who carded a 4-under 68 to pull within one shot of the lead during the third round of the 53rd annual Harder Hall Women's Invitational on Saturday. Walshe, who was five shots back heading into Saturday's round carded birdies on the final three holes to keep hot on the heels of the leader. "Its weird, but I didn't think I hit the ball that well today," Walshe said. "I just made birdies and was patient with my game." ...more

FIRST TEAM Kim Carpenter, Berkeley Prep, Jr. Carpenter was one of the main reasons the Bucs advanced to the 1A state tournament for the first time since 2003, proving to be the team's most consistent player in the postseason. She claimed individual medalist honors at the District 14 tournament and finished seventh at the Region 5 tournament a week later. At state, Carpenter shot 82-83 in tough conditions to finish tied for 28th, a team best. ...more

FIRST TEAM Chris Biuso, King, Sr. Biuso proved again this season to be one of the area's most consistent golfers. The Lions standout finished with a regular-season average at par and registered two top-five finishes in the postseason. Biuso, a first-team All-Western Conference pick, finished as the individual runner-up at the 2A-District 11 tournament, and one week later finished tied for fifth at the Region 4 tournament, missing a state berth by two strokes. ...more

SEBRING — A commitment to improve. That's the goal of the Country Club of Sebring staff and management. To prove the point, an invitational tournament was held on Saturday, and the team of Greg Albritton, Don Eslinger and Jerry Childress finished first in the field of 76 players with a 57. The format was a four-person scramble, and Rocky Khara, Alvin Walters, Gary Davidson and Stewart Green placed second with a 59, after a match of cards with Randy Leone, Michael Leone, Travis Rapp and Chris Myers. ...more
