Eight local students, accompanied by four chaperons, attended the recent Space Camp for the Blind at the Space Center in Huntsville, Ala. The weeklong camp drew 160 blind or visually impaired students from 26 U.S. states, as well as Israel, Liberia, Ireland and Canada. Activities included learning about the history of space exploration, basic military procedure and drills, robotics and survival skills. Locally, the program was sponsored by the Divison of Blind Services and the Hillsborough school district's Visually Impaired Program. ...more
