Time is almost up for any young sluggers interested in playing ball for one South Shore organization this spring. East Bay Little League will host the first of its last two on-site registration days Jan. 24 at Vance Vogel Park, 13012 Bullfrog Creek Road, the league's home field. The girls district soccer tournament began Monday, with championship games in four local districts scheduled for Friday. Next week, the boys start their quest for a state championship. Action begins Monday with Class 6A-7 play at Mitchell and 4A-8 action at Springstead. The other two tournaments - 2A-9 at Bishop McLaughlin and 5A-7 at Brooksville Central - start Tuesday. A Tampa police officer who rescued a woman in Old Tampa Bay and a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy who ended a man's bloody rampage were among 15 people honored Wednesday for heroism, the governor's office said. The Governor's Medal of Heroism was awarded this year to 10 law enforcement officers and one firefighter for their actions in the line of duty. Gov.
