The eight graders at J.D. Floyd K-8 all scored 3.5 or better on the FCAT Writing test. It was reported in Thursday's edition that Victoria Hernaiz was the only teacher in the county whose students accomplished that feat. In addition to her, one teacher at Challenger K-8 also had all of her students score higher than the desired state average. Ninety-eight percent of all the eighth-grade students at Challenger scored 3.5 or better. ...more

The only teenager to receive jail time for her role in the videotaped beating of a Polk County girl is back home. Brittini Hardcastle, 17, left jail this morning. She was sentenced Friday to 15 days behind bars and released today because she had previously served some of that time. ...more
